I’m so proud that Redwoods is a certified B Corporation. What’s that? B Corps are a new type of for-benefit company – firms looking beyond their bottom line, using the power of business to help solve social and environmental problems. B Corps are legally accountable to consider the impact of their decisions not only on their shareholders, but also on their workforce, community and environment. Think of it this way – B Corp certification does for the sustainable business movement what LEED certification has done for green building.
B Lab is the nonprofit organization that runs B Corp certification. Currently, it is a finalist in an online contest that could earn B Lab some free PR services. Edelman, a leading independent global PR firm, is sponsoring the contest to promote a new book called Breakthrough Nonprofit Branding. This hands-on guide helps nonprofits build their brand, raise their profile, strengthen their impact and develop deeper relationships with donors, volunteers, employees and other stakeholders. First prize in the contest, valued at $100,000, is two one-quarter page black and white national advertisements in USA Today. To vote, click on the link below.
